Gold bars have been used for thousands of years as a store of wealth. Though gold bullion coins introduced in the 20th century have continued to grow in popularity with investors as a means of private gold ownership, gold bars remain a go-to for nations, banks, and individuals when it comes to storing wealth.
Part of the modern popularity of gold bars is a variety of choices. Gold bars are still made as cast gold bars using traditional methods and are now made using computer-controlled processes as well to create highly-refined finished products. These Argor-Heraeus gold bars are an example of the latter. Minted ingots are cut, stamped, and engraved by computers in most cases to create a product with refined edges and perfect shapes.
The obverse field of the 5 Gram Argor-Heraeus Gold Bar includes the image of the mint logo and inscriptions of the bar’s weight, purity, and metal content. All of the engravings are arranged from the top to bottom down the vertical face of the bar. The Argor-Heraeus logo consists of a circle with two rings. The inner ring has the initials “AH” with the full name of the mint around that. Below that is the nation of origin for these bars, “Switzerland.”
