The 2020 Basketball HOF Coin release at the United States Mint contained a total of four coins in total. Three of these coins were precious metal specimens with silver and gold content. The lone silver coin was a $1 proof silver coin with .999 pure silver content. The only non-precious metal coin was a clad half dollar.
In the gold series, the US Mint offered two coins with a $5 denomination. These included a gold proof coin and these burnished gold coins. All of the coins had domed surfaces on the reverse with a concave obverse.
Basketball players are featured wrestling for position beneath a ball as it comes down from the hoop in the obverse design of 2020-W $5 Basketball HOF Gold Coins. This design element is set on a concave, or sunken, field.
