2013 1 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf

Each of the 2013 1 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins listed here comes with a protective plastic flip housing the specimen. The coins represent the 35th overall release of the series and one of the highest-minted date marks in the history of the program.

Introduced in 1979, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf was originally available only as a 1 oz gold coin with .999 pure gold content. The first expansion of the series came in November 1982 when the Royal Canadian Mint both increased the purity to .9999 gold content and introduced fractional-weight coins for the first time in the history of the series. These 2013 Canadian Gold Maple Leafs are significant in the history of the series as well. 2013 marked the first time the Royal Canadian Mint produced the new maple leaf privy security mark. This maple leaf mark has a laser-etched date mark using the final two digits of the date. These digits are within the maple leaf privy and visible only under magnification.

The obverse side of 2013 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins features the bust of Queen Elizabeth II. This version of the Queen’s portrait was developed in 2003 by Susanna Blunt and is the fourth-generation effigy of Her Majesty to feature on Canadian coins. This portrait is also, notably, the first during her reign to lack a crown and the first portrait of a monarch without a crown since the reign of her father, King George VI.
