The series started in 2007 with the wives of the first four men to hold the office of President of the United States of America: Martha Washington, Abigail Adams, and Dolley Madison. Presidents without a spouse while serving in office are represented by an obverse portrait of Liberty, as was the case for Thomas Jefferson.
