Australian Kangaroo coins have long been available in gold and silver. The gold BU series started in 1990 when the Gold Nugget collection was changed to feature the kangaroo instead of images of gold nuggets. In 2016, silver BU coins were introduced in the series, followed by platinum BU coins in 2018. Throughout all of this, proof silver coins were issued, often with designs matching the Gold Kangaroos.

On the obverse side of the 2022 Australian Silver Kangaroo Reverse Gilded Coin is an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This depiction of the Queen is the sixth-generation portrait to feature on Australian coins and shows the Queen in right-profile relief wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. Reverse gilding on this side completely covers the background field, leaving only the effigy of the Queen in pure silver.
