The polar bear is classified as a hypercarnivore and is entirely reliant on meat in its diet to survive in the Arctic Circle. A male boar, or mature adult male, can weigh as much as 1,543 pounds. Despite its massive size and weight, the polar bear is actually a swift hunter and is capable, courtesy of its webbed paws, of moving quickly in the water as it hunts seals.
Polar bears are distinctive for white fur covering the body of the great beasts. However, it is not the color of the fur that makes the polar bear look white, but rather, the lack of color in individual hair follicles. The hair that makes up the fur of the polar bear is actually hollow and clear, resulting in the white appearance of the fur.
