Britannia was originally the name of the isles and the inhabitants in Latin, given to the region by the conquering Romans. Over time, Britannia came to hold status as a goddess of sorts, representing the protective nature of Britain.

British Silver Britannia coins are available in 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, and 1/10 oz. The silver coins originally consisted of .958 silver from 1997 to 2012, but now feature .999 pure silver.
