American Silver Eagles released in 2006 were part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the coin program. Debuting in 1986, the Silver Eagle originally featured only a bullion and proof version of the coin. For the 20th anniversary, the US Mint decided to release not only a special one-time striking of the proofs, but also an all-new coin in the series.
Included in this 2006 Proof American Silver Eagle 3-Coin Set you’ll find three different versions of the coin. Bearing a “W” mint mark, the standard Proof American Silver Eagle is one of the three coins in this release. Also included is a one-time issue of a Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle struck at the Philadelphia Mint and featuring a “P” mint mark.
A reverse proof silver coin has the opposite visual effects of a typical proof in the American Silver Eagle series. You’ll find a strong, frosted background field on this coin, with deeply-mirrored, raised design features.
