All of the designs in the 2016 release of Hobo Nickel Silver Rounds were, first and foremost, similar in design to one another as a clever play on the old Buffalo Nickel design from James Earle Fraser. Created by Mr. The, the rounds were different, yet similar, at the same time
For the 2017 Hobo Nickels, five new artists will contribute to the design of individual new rounds available from Heads or Tales Coin Company and the Osborne Mint. The first of these designs is from Roman Boteen and revives the 1513 creation of Albrecht Durer. His depiction is known as KNIGHT, DEATH, AND DEVIL, and features a knight riding along on horseback with his faithful dog at his side. This is considered to be one of his so-called Meisterstricth, or master prints.
On the obverse of all 1 oz Antique Durer’s Knight Silver Rounds you’ll find the image of Durer’s Knight, faithfully recreated by Boteen. The original creation featured the rider moving through a narrow gorge with a goat-headed devil behind him and death riding a pale horse in front of him.
