The 1 oz coin was the most popular option among investors when the American Gold Eagle bullion coins made their debut in 1986. The 1 oz coin stayed at the top of the four options as the preferred coin for many gold buyers during periods of low gold prices, like the 1980s and 1990s. However, as gold prices started to soar around Y2K, the 1/10 oz coin saw a sharp increase in popularity. Every year between 1995 and 2002, the 1/10 oz coin sold more than the 1 oz alternative.

Lady Liberty is depicted on the obverse side of 2019 1 10 oz American Gold Eagle Coin. Augustus Saint-Gaudens created this front-facing depiction of Liberty advancing from Washington, DC, in 1907 to represent the country’s rising international significance as well as the freedom and liberty it wished to demonstrate to the rest of the world. This $20 Gold Double Eagle design was made by Saint-Gaudens and was used until the coin’s cancellation in 1933.
